Snowmobile Trip to Yellowstone National Parkand Jackson Hole
December 28, 2001 - January 5, 2002
We had 47 adventurous people from ages 5 to 70 and over make the trip. About 1/3 of the group flew to Jackson, WY and the other 2/3 drove to Jackson. There, we spent 2 days exploring the Jackson Hole area -skiing, tubing and taking a tour of the National Elk Refuge Area. On Monday, December 31st, we departed Jackson and drove to West Yellowstone, MT where we stayed at the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort Hotel. We rented 27 snowmobiles and divided up into 5 to 6 snowmobiles to a group. On New Year's Day, we awoke to a bright clear day with the temperature around minus 10 degrees. After getting check out on our snowmobiles, we departed for the Grizzly Discovery Center located just a few blocks from our hotel. Ay the Center, we viewed up close bears and a den of wolves. We then left and headed for Old Faithful and other scenic areas in Yellowstone National Park. On day 2, it was again a beautiful day with the early morning temperature at minus 19 degrees but it warmed up nicely by 10am. This day we rode on trails outside of the park and headed for Two Top trail which is a must see trail. The winter scenery is just magnificent. Two Top trail should be taken on a sunny day. Day 3 was a snowy day with temperatures much warmer than the previous days. We went back into the park to visit Canyon and Fishing Bridge areas. Most of the riders rode the complete loop around the park, about a 140 mile ride. The Holiday Inn provided us with the Arctic Cat 600 4-stroke snowmobile which was a joy to ride. The trails were in good conditions with lots of snow on the ground. The photos are a compilation of pictures taken by the group.
